Kazan is a city with a millennial history and a rich culture, which is the capital of one of the most advanced and hospitable regions of Russia – the Republic of Tatarstan.

Tatarstan is traditionally among the leading regions of the Russian Federation and is well known outside of Russia. The region is rich in natural resources. In the structure of the economy, the largest specific gravity is occupied by industry (including mining, processing production, mechanical engineering and metalworking). An important area of ​​development of the region is an IT industry.

The synthesis of two crops

Kazan is the embodiment of the synthesis of European and Asian cultures, Christianity and Islam. For many centuries in the atmosphere of peace and consent, mutual support and tolerance, representatives of different faiths and more than 115 nationalities live here. The most numerous of them are Russians and Tatars. A striking example of such a synthesis is the Kazan Kremlin, on the territory of which the Kul-Sharif mosque and the Orthodox Blagoveshchensk Cathedral are located in the neighborhood.

The sports capital of Russia

Kazan is the sports capital of Russia. The city is rightfully and proudly wears this title, conducting many international tournaments and being a home for a number of titled clubs. FC “Rubin”, HC “Ak Bars”, volleyball “Zenit” and “Dynamo”, basketball units, waterpole “synthesis” – clubs whose names are known far outside the country.

In Kazan, they love sport with all their hearts. The XXVII World Summer Universiade 2013 gave the city a rich heritage in the form of a wide variety of sports objects, clubs and sections that the townspeople and guests of the capital are happy to visit. Thanks to the developed infrastructure, the largest international competitions were held here: the XVI World Cup in 2015 Water Sports, FIFA Confederations Cup matches in 2017, and the World Cup matches in 2018. The high quality of the title international sports competitions in Kazan has repeatedly been marked by the global sports community.

Over the past decade, Tatarstan has made a huge breakthrough in the development of sports infrastructure. Today, Kazan is a city that can accept the largest competitions of international format.

Ideal for tourism

A comfortable and safe rest, a rich historical heritage and a variety of cultural objects, the masterpieces of Tatar cuisine and the hospitality of local residents have already attracted more than 3.5 million tourists to Kazan. More than 150 accommodation facilities operate in the city. The capabilities of Kazan in the field of hospitality organization allow large international events at a high level.

There are three UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Republic of Tatarstan – the Kazan Kremlin, the Great Bolgar and the complex of the Assumption Monastery on the island town of Sviyazhsk. In 2005, Kazan celebrated a significant date – the 1000th anniversary of the city.

In 2021, Kazan received the official status of the gastronomic capital of Russia. Restaurants with national Tatar cuisine are very popular among city guests. Traditional Tatar pastries, noodle soup, chak-chak and talkysh kaleve leave few people indifferent.

Cultural life of the city

The cultural life of the thousand-year-old capital of Tatarstan is saturated with a huge number of major world-class forums, including the International Opera Festival named after F.I. ”, the Tat Cult Fest festival of new Tatar culture, as well as the Tasty Kazan festival, the Aksenov-fest literary festival and the international festival of Muslim cinema. In Kazan, 9 theaters, 34 state museums, private galleries, the State Big Concert Hall named after S. Saydashev and 2 philharmonics are open to the public.

Advanced technology and education

More than 200 thousand students from 125 countries study in Kazan, and one of the largest universities in Russia is also located here. The city occupies a leading position in investment and construction and is one of the largest economic, scientific and educational centers in the country. Russia's largest technoparks IT-Park and Idea operate here, and not far from the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan there is a whole high-tech city of Innopolis.

In 2019 Kazan hosted the 45th world championship in professional skills according to WorldSkills standards. In the near future, the city plans to open a federal technology center WorldSkills Russia.

Restoration of significant cultural and historical sites, construction of new interchanges and metro, infrastructural transformations and implementation of the concept of development of urban public spaces provided the city with an attractive appearance of a flourishing metropolis, which, of course, is noted by both Kazan citizens and guests of the city.
